Author Craig Olson’s New Book, “Hitler’s Pianist, Roosevelt’s Secret,” Explores One of Hitler’s Closest Friends Who Later Became an Adviser for the Allies in WWII

Bainbridge Island, WA, February 03, 2026 –(PR.com)– Craig Olson, an accomplished entrepreneur and technology executive, has completed his new book, “Hitler’s Pianist, Roosevelt’s Secret”: a unique look at an often overlooked yet integral figure in the Allie’s victory over Germany during WWII who once sat beside Hitler as a close friend.

“The largely untold saga of Ernst ‘Putzi’ Hanfstaengl is one of the most fascinating and unlikely stories that took place before and during World War II,” writes Olson. “How is it possible that a Harvard graduate, friend to both Franklin and Teddy Roosevelt, became one of Hitler’s closest friends—only later to assist Franklin Roosevelt and the Allies as a secret adviser? Putzi helped Hitler rise to power and became his foreign press chief once the Nazis took power in 1933. He later fled Germany and interned in England as an enemy alien once war broke out in September 1939. He was eventually shipped off to an internment camp in Canada, where he was able to smuggle out a letter to President Roosevelt, offering his help to the Allies. Roosevelt accepted his offer and brought Putzi secretly to the DC area. And in an astonishing twist of fate, Roosevelt enlisted Putzi’s only son, American-born Egon, by then a US Army sergeant, to act as Putzi’s guard and secretary. Hanfstaengl’s story is one of intrigue, vanity, ethical and moral failure, and, in the end, redemption—circumscribed by two of the most important figures in modern history.”

Published by Page Publishing, Craig Olson’s enlightening series was inspired by the author’s love of twentieth-century history, as well as his master’s thesis which concerned Hanfstaengl’s secret work for Roosevelt from 1942 to 1944. Drawing on information gathered from numerous libraries and archives in the US and in Germany, as well as an interview with Ernst’s son Egon Hanfstaengl, “Hitler’s Pianist, Roosevelt’s Secret” is sure to bring to life one of the most fascinating yet unknown chapters of World War II’s history.

Readers who wish to experience this enthralling work can purchase “Hitler’s Pianist, Roosevelt’s Secret” at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes Store, Amazon, Google Play, or Barnes and Noble.
