Fredo Durand, MIT CSAIL Computer Scientist, Joins the RIS Advisory Board

Delray Beach, FL, February 06, 2026 –(PR.com)– Remote Intelligence Solutions (RIS) is delighted to welcome Fredo Durand, PhD., to the RIS Advisory Board. An award-winning computer scientist at the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), Fredo helps lead CSAIL’s Computer Graphics Group and works on both computer graphics and vision, spanning topics such as computational photography, differentiable rendering, compilers for high-performance imaging, and video magnification.

Several of his projects focus on trying to reveal visual signals that are otherwise imperceptible to the human eye. With MIT colleagues he developed a “motion microphone” device that can take silent video of an object and magnify the visual vibrations from the video to recreate the sounds present in the room.

Dr. Durand’s expertise in visual information and handling large amounts of data will help guide the RIS mission to streamline the process of inspecting electric utility poles and other assets to increase efficiencies, highlight and predict asset vulnerabilities and anomalies, and accelerate repair and maintenance. Fredo said, “I am thrilled to join RIS, where the scale, quality, and visual complexity of the data present exciting challenges and opportunities. This work has the potential to deliver meaningful societal impact by making utility inspection more efficient and robust.”

“Fredo is a wonderfully creative addition to our team,” says Stuart Rudolph, President of RIS. “He will support our goal of applying AI to solve the challenges facing the electric industry, including constrained workforces, expanding regulations, and massively growing demand projections.

Fredo’s broad expertise will be an invaluable voice to guide innovations in the electric power industry that will help utilities manage the enormous trove of data and the regulations that continue to impact strategy, operations, repair and maintenance.

Remote Intelligence Solutions – RIS Inc. sells UTELinspect, a holistic, AI-enabled platform for managing electric utility inspection data, unlocking the next phase of efficiency, scalability, and innovation for the industry. Accommodating both aerial (drone) and ground inspection data and processes, UTELinspect provides an effective digital transformation entry point by automating image assignments, labeling structured and unstructured data, creating on-demand reports, and accessing multiple data sources.
