Drawing from audio recorded during the original interrogation, the performers lip-sync to the actual dialogue exchanged between Weist and government officials. The production itself will be filmed as an extension of the project, creating a new artistic document that reimagines the event while preserving its essential questions about authorship, observation, and creative practice.
Pierce portrays John Goldman, one of the officials conducting the interrogation. Known for bringing depth and authenticity to authoritative and morally complex characters, Pierce was drawn to the production’s exploration of power, perception, and the blurred lines between investigation and artistic expression.
“As an actor, I’m often drawn to characters who operate in gray areas,” said Pierce. “John Goldman isn’t a villain or a hero—he’s trying to do his job while confronting questions that don’t have clear answers. That’s what makes the piece so compelling. Questioning asks audiences to think about what artists do, why they do it, and who gets to define the value of creative work.”
Directed by Julia Weist and presented by New Theater Hollywood, Questioning transforms a government proceeding into a compelling theatrical experience. The work challenges audiences to reconsider the relationship between art and institutional authority while exploring the ways creativity can exist within—and sometimes resist—bureaucratic structures.
Pierce has appeared across stage and screen in feature films, streaming productions, national commercial campaigns, and live theater. A veteran performer known for his strong screen presence and emotionally grounded character work, he has built a reputation for portraying complex individuals whose motivations often defy easy categorization.
Questioning will be filmed July 6–10, 2026, with performances scheduled July 10–19 at New Theater Hollywood in Los Angeles. Ticket and venue information will be announced by the production company.
